This is the second fault to occur with this laptop of mine over the last three months. First my hard-drive completely failed and I had to fit a new one myself and now my backspace key doesn’t work. I’m using a two year old PowerBook G4, which has been solid up until now. It almost seems as if it was perfectly built to last two years and only two years.

The last time I had a fault I tried to take it to a place near where I live, AT Computers. A rather expensive phone call to Apple Support, £30 for the whole minute they were on the phone, directed me to that company. They held my laptop for over two weeks and only “re-seated the RAM”. Yes, as we all know, re-seating the RAM will fix a completely broken and un-bootable hard-drive… That cost me another £30 and yet my laptop still didn’t work. Anyway, I spoke about that before in a previous post so I won’t go back in to it. I’m just wary of where I can take my laptop to fix it now, as there aren’t any Apple Stores around me.

The good news is that for Christmas, I’m getting myself an iMac. I won’t be able to take it to lectures with me, but I’ll make do with pen and paper until I can afford a new MacBook / Pro.
