Boot Camp 1.2 - Finally!

A new version of Apple’s Boot Camp software has finally been released. This version claims to have support for Microsoft’s Windows Vista - and to think, it only came out one day after I re-installed Vista. The great thing is that I don’t have to re-re-install Vista, as the new Boot Camp just upgrades the last one and allows you to burn a new CD with better driver support for Vista.

Once you’ve created the new Mac drivers CD, simply reboot into Vista and pop the CD back in. Being the lazy person I am, instead of going through the whole rigmarole I went through last time, I simply ran the Setup.exe that was on the CD. You know what? It works. Brightness support, Apple Remote support, Built-in-iSight support and more straight out of the box.. uhh.. CD.

This is a big update over the last version of Boot Camp, purely in terms of drivers. Finally, Vista support.

I’ve just upgraded and installed the new drivers, so I’m good to go! I’m actually writing this entry from Vista via the TextMate alternative for Windows, namely InType (note: not a port or clone of TextMate - just the same nice feeling). The best thing, for me, about this update is that my sound finally works perfectly. Before this update my sound would be a bit sketchy at times, sounding as if it was being lagged or slowed down by something. Currently it appears to be working fine!

All-in-all, great update so if you plan on installing Vista on your Mac now is the time to do it; go grab Boot Camp 1.2.
