MacHeist Donations Reach $100,000

It’s official, earlier on today the money raised for charity reached $100,000! After saying that the $100,000 goal for TextMate seemed a little too high, it was unlocked earlier on. Whether it was this decision that actually spurred people into buying the bundle (as TextMate actually costs the same as it..) is another matter - the good news is that so much money has been raised for the charities.

On the MacHeist forums, Phil Ryu said:

Color me shocked. Seriously. We began the day yesterday with $50,000 raised and NewsFire unlocked, and less than 36 hours later… we’ve broken the $100,000 plateau.

If you think about how much a hundred bucks can do for an organization like The Hunger Project, or Save the Children, or United Way, or any of the charities involved, $100,000 is truly something huge. Something life changing for many people. And it’s all thanks to you.

So without further ado… we have a message from two hyperactive critters:

THANK YOU!

- The Directorate

I would like to extend my congratulations to the MacHeist team for this feat and give my thanks to both them and the community of people who purchased the bundle. Thank you.

Edit:

I’m a bit slow on the uptake it seems as I’ve just stumbled across this interesting article from Daring Fireball. I’d suggest everyone to check it out. Whether anything in there is truthful, biased or otherwise is not for me to say however I did find it very interesting. It’s basically a look at how the money breaks down for everyone (the developers, charities and the MacHeist Team) and clever word phrasing (or not so, as the first paragraph shows).

Anyway, check out the article here, it makes for a good read!
