Macworld Disappointments

Was it just me or were the announcements at the keynote not all that fantastic? Just for a quick big feature round-up…

  • Apple tv released today, to be shipping in February (and renamed from the internal codename of iTV)
  • iPhone, to be released in the fourth quarter of this year (I’m in the UK); the most impressive thing to come out of this announcement, to be fair.
  • The company changed its name from Apple Computer Inc. to Apple Inc.

So where is iLife and iWork 07? Where are some of the new Leopard features? Where is the new iPod?

I can’t help but feel a little disappointed as I actually just transferred quite a bit of money ready to buy myself a new computer, all the new software bundles and a new iPod. Now, I’m not even sure if I’m going to buy the computer. There’s a couple of days left until the end of Macworld and I have some reservations as to whether Apple will be announcing anything during the upcoming days or whether that is just it and I can go ahead. I was really looking forward to a new iPod; my current is actually a 4Gb silver mini.

I will, however, be buying the iPhone; no doubt about it in my mind. It looks cool, it has amazing features and if you haven’t yet, go check it out.

There was also an unannounced product of the new AirPort Extreme, which now features 802.11n, which is also very nice. Been as my house just bought a new Netgear router, however, I don’t think we’ll be seeing this one yet.

I realise this is a rather short post but I’ve just finished reading all the news and websites related to the keynote and just wanted to express my rather disappointed feelings towards the whole thing.

How do you feel about the keynote? Are you also looking forward to the iPhone as much as I am?

I want the iPhone quite alot, but it’ll probably be a while until it gets released here in Australia.
    Apple TV = Meh.

    Exactly how I feel.

Although, one of my room mates is considering buying the Apple tv. It would be kinda cool but it’s not something I’m excited over. I was really hoping for some Leopard content during this keynote, though, so maybe I’d be happier with the Apple tv if I’d gotten more things I wanted.

I’m the said room mate in question, and yeah the Apple TV would be quite cool. Steff, his girlfriend and I both run iTunes, so watching movies on the TV would be nice. However, I feel like I want to wait to see what files it can play back. It also doesn’t strike me as complete now - iTunes in the US still has the lower res movies and in the UK doesn’t have TV shows or movies at all - so where do we get these HD movies from. I guess they have a month to upgrade the movies on iTunes and get deals done for more locations…

I really like the iPhone and with a year on my contract still, it’ll be out in time come my upgrade. I hope developers can make widgets for it, or current widgets can run on the device. I’m sure we can think of a few ideas for the device between us Steff… ;-)
The emptiness is that there’s nothing out now to get excited about. A few more hints at Leopard would have been nice and I would definitely have jumped for a new iPod with iPhone style display.
